Even if you have a kitchen that is on the smaller size, there are some helpful tips that you can take advantage of to maximize and make the most out of the space that you do have. Because the kitchen is known as “the heart of the home” and is one of the spaces that you may typically spend the most time in, it is important to have a clutter-free area that you are able to store all of your pots, pants, utensils, plates and food without creating a huge mess. Organization is an absolute must in kitchens, no matter what size space you are working with.
Hanging Pots and Pans
One of the easiest ways to maximize the space in your kitchen is to hang your pots and pans rather than cramming then all into cabinets and drawers. Install a hanging pot rack on your ceiling where there are no light fixtures in the way. Not only are you creating more space by opting to hang your pots, but you are also making it easier to find them in a pinch when you are in the middle of cooking something.
While many do not think of this, the wall is actually a great place to make use of extra space that you can utilize. Install shelves on empty kitchen walls between cabinets where you can store cups, mugs, bowls, spices and small knick-knacks that may have previously taken up residence in the back of your cupboards. This will also give your kitchen a whole new updated look and feel.
Top of the Fridge
Another excellent place that you can use for storage is on the top of the refrigerator. This barren spot is the perfect area to maximize your space for storage such as pans, platters and even boxes of cereal that may take up too much room in your current pantry. You may choose to place items up here that you do not use on a regular basis, as it may be difficult to reach.
Although jars of spices are relatively small, having a large number of them can take up a whole lot of room. Not only that, but they can become lost in your cupboards and it can be difficult to find the specific ones that you are looking for. Instead, invest in a spice rack that allows you to easily store all of your spice jars, freeing up space for other items. Spice racks can be hung on empty areas of the wall or placed on the counter top.
Organize Your Appliances
If you are losing space in your kitchen, it’s time to go through all of those appliances that you have that are collecting dust. Perhaps that blender that you used a few years ago is not so handy anymore. Go through your appliances and sell, donate or throw away ones that you no longer use. This will free up counter space and space in the bottom of your cabinets where they used to take up residence.
Large utensils such as spoons, spatulas and tongs may take up a lot of room in your cabinet drawers because they are so large. Purchase a utensil crock that you can place all of your larger utensils in right on the counter. Other things that you can use as a utensil crock include empty jars or pitchers that you currently have lying around collecting dust.
By using these handy tips, you’ll be well on your way to maximizing the space in your kitchen in no time. Enjoy your new found space throughout the day while you practice your cooking skills.
