François Antoine Bossuet was a Belgian architectural painter. After he studied at the Academy in Brussels he spent a few years travelling around Europe, visiting Holland, Germany, France, Spain, North Africa and Italy, especially Venice, where he stayed for some time .

Bossuet was often inspired by the rural countryside and villages. His images frequently included picturesque chateaux and ruins. He is predominantly recognised for his detailed paintings, demonstrating his knowledge of architecture and atmosphere of the location. As we can see in this painting of Venice, he captures the natural light that makes the city so unforgettable. His work is shown today in many museums in Belgium, France and Germany.
