Salvador Sanchez Barbudo
(1857 Jerez de la Frontera, Spain - 1917 Cádiz, Spain)
Salvador Sanchez Barbudo was born in 1857 and after initially studying in Seville and Madrid, he settled in Rome in 1882. Until 1884, he specialised in historical genre painting, but disappointed by his lack of success in this field, he turned to easel painting. He then concentrated on everyday life scenes, on interiors, “a painter of historical genre scenes who does not paint history”, and which he meticulously depicted. The artist portrays his interior scenes with great precision and movement, through the use of fluid and energetic brushstrokes. His work is represented in major museums in the US, in Barcelona and in the Prado Museum in Madrid.
