Corneliz Anthonisz spent most of his career in his hometown working as a printmaker, painter, and cartographer. His woodcut of an aerial view of the city was first published in 1544. He later worked as a cartographer for emperor Charles V and painted portraits. His group portrait, “The Civic Guard” was the forerunner for its genre.
